This is the easiest way to add COM ports to access your devices. You need to configure the operation mode of NPort serial port to "Drvier/Real COM" mode first. The driver manager will send the broadcast packet to seach NPort servers on LAN and list out the result. The checkboxes on the left means the server which you want the newly added COM ports to map to.
This is another way to map the COM port. As you can see from the UI, there are three types of COM Port, RealCOM, Redundant COM and Reverse RealCOM.
In RealCOM mode, you need to provide the NPort IP address and the TCP port. The data port and command port field should be filled with the first mapping port you want to add. If you haved added more than one port, the data and command port number will be enumerated automatically.
In Redundant COM, the configuration in the same as RealCOM basically, but you need to provide two IP addresses or domain names to map a Redundant COM. And the operation mode of NPort serial port is necessary to be configured to "Redundant COM" mode.
In Reverse RealCOM, the mapping address is not a IP address but the MAC of your NPort server. And the Port index means the index of NPort serial port. For example, if you want to map one Reverse RealCOM port to the NPort port2, then "1st mapping port index" should be filled with "2". The "Total ports" means the total port numbers you want to add.
NPort Windows Driver Manager supports fully qualified domain name(FQDN). You are able to map COM port with domain name format.
When do you need to input manaully?
The NPort TCP Port number. Data channel is used to transfer raw data only and command channel is used to transfer command. NPort driver will use this channel to change NPort serial port setting. In general case, the value starts with 950/966. That is, NPort firmware will listen on 950/966 for 1st serial port, 951/967 for 2nd serial port and so on.
But if there is firewall in your system which might block the default data/command port, the port number will need to be modified for security issue. In this way, you can choose "Input Manually".
